A multifaceted city located on the homonymous gulf of the Tyrrhenian Sea, over the centuries it has been the object of interest of the largest ancient populations: Etruscans, Lombards, Normans. The resources and strategic position favored its affirmation as the Norman capital in 1077, under the aegis of Robert Guiscard, and as the capital of Italy in 1944.
